Beyond Mapleton: Family Fun Within a 10-Minute Drive
One of the best things about living in Mapleton is that you get the peace and quiet of a residential sanctuary without ever being far from the action. While we love our local trails and parks, sometimes the kids need a change of scenery.
Luckily, some of Utah County’s most impressive family destinations are literally ten minutes from your front door. Whether you’re looking for a state-of-the-art playground or a quiet afternoon of art, here is where we head when we want a "mini-adventure" just outside city limits.
1. Adventure Heights All-Abilities Park (Spanish Fork)
Drive Time: ~8-10 Minutes The Draw: A "mini-Disneyland" feel that is inclusive for everyone.
If you haven't been to Adventure Heights, prepare to be the "cool parent" for the day. This isn't your average neighborhood park. It was designed with input from local families to ensure kids of all physical and developmental abilities can play together.
-
Don't Miss: The massive 24-foot "Incredible Treehouse" and the splash pad featuring Ford Falls (a 750-gallon-per-minute waterfall!).
-
Why Kids Love It: Between the zip lines with safety harnesses and the sensory garden, there is a specialized "zone" for every energy level.
-
Pro-Tip: The park is enclosed with a single entrance, making it much easier for parents to keep track of multiple kids in a large space.
2. Jolley’s Ranch at Hobble Creek Canyon (Springville)
Drive Time: ~10 Minutes The Draw: Year-round outdoor recreation.
Just a quick hop over into Springville’s Hobble Creek Canyon takes you to Jolley’s Ranch. This spot is a staple for local families because it transforms with the seasons.
-
In the Summer: It’s the ultimate spot for a family BBQ. There are huge open fields for frisbee, a great playground, and even a disc golf course for the older kids.
-
In the Winter: This is the place for sledding and tubing. They even offer yurt rentals and groomed cross-country skiing trails.
-
Pro-Tip: If you’re a fan of "The Sidecar Cafe" at Legends Motorcycles, grab some burgers to-go before heading up the canyon for a scenic mountain picnic.
3. Springville Museum of Art (Springville)
Drive Time: ~7 Minutes The Draw: Culture that’s actually "kid-friendly."
Don't let the word "Museum" intimidate you—the Springville Museum of Art is incredibly welcoming to families. Housed in a stunning Spanish Colonial Revival building, it’s a great place to introduce kids to the arts in a low-pressure environment.
-
Family Programs: Keep an eye out for the Children’s Art Festival (June 12, 2026) or the "Guppy Group" for toddlers.
-
Why it Works: The museum is free to the public, meaning you can stay for 30 minutes or two hours without feeling like you have to "get your money's worth." It’s the perfect "rainy day" or "too hot to be outside" backup plan.
The Benefit of the "Hub"
The beauty of the South Utah County area is the "hub and spoke" layout. By living in Mapleton, you are the "hub." You have the quietest, most scenic home base, yet you are less than 15 minutes away from the best recreation, shopping, and culture that Spanish Fork and Springville have to offer.
New to the area? If you’re exploring these neighboring cities and realize you want to settle down in the quiet middle ground of Mapleton, I’d love to help you find your spot. You can browse all local listings at loricollins.com.
